This guide provides prospective grant applicants information necessary to submit grant applications, understand how those applications will be evaluated, and help grant recipients comply with Kodiak Brown Bear Trust (KBBT) reporting requirements.
The KBBT works to promote conservation of brown bears on the Kodiak Archipelago through funding of research, management, education/outreach, and habitat protection projects. Grant applications should address high priority needs in those areas. Special consideration is given to projects that involve the collaboration of two or more organizations/agencies.
Grant applications are evaluated by KBBT Trustees and the Executive Director, based on relevance to KBBT mission, scientific rigor, practicality, cost effectiveness, and participation of cooperators. KBBT may also consult with a technical expert during the review process. Review and decision on applications will occur within three months of submission.
The KBBT accepts two types of grant applications:
SMALL GRANTS – up to $1,000
LARGE GRANTS – greater than $1,000
